CHENNAI: Despite heavy rains in the morning, students from various colleges all over India made it to the thirteenth edition of SHAASTRA, the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras’ (IIT-M) annual technical festival. The festival kicked off with events all over the sprawling campus. Events included Contraption, which involved the use of everyday items to rig up modules similar to the ones seen in Tom and Jerry cartoons, Wright design, a design intensive event checking how well participants could apply classroom physics to make a glider fly, and Fire n Ice, where students make their own remote control (RC) car and race to be the best team.One of the main pre- registered events, which will go on till Sunday, is the Aero Workshop, where eight teams have the opportunity to learn how to build an RC model aircraft. Testing will happen on Saturday from 3pm to 5pm. Final flights will be held on Sunday at 6 am.Other events were Shaastra Maze, Gamers Inn, Bulls and Bears, Chemex, Hackfest, Project X, Puzzle Champ, Chemtrek, Forensics and Top Gun. Robowars saw robots built and equipped for battle in the ring. The events will go on for the next three days in IIT-M campus.
