Seven die in rain-related incidents across state as monsoon gets active
Seven persons were killed in rain and flood related incidents in Uttar Pradesh with moderate rain and thundershower lashing several parts of the state in the last 24 hours.  "According to the reports reaching state headquarters in Lucknow, four persons were killed in Sitapur, two in Shahjahanpur and one in Bahraich district due to flood and lightning incidents in the last 24 hours," IG (law and order) R K Vishwakarma said on Wednesday.

The south-west monsoon has been active over east UP and normal over western parts of the state, resulting in moderate rain and thundershowers at many places in those parts of the state.  Met office sources said that the chief amount of rainfall recorded in cms: Sidhauli (Sitapur) Bhatpurawaghat-5 each, Fatehgarh, Dalmau (Rae Bareli)-4 each, Jhansi, Baheri (Bareilly) and Mirzapur-3 each.

Sources forecast that rain and thundershowers would occur at many places in the state in the next 24 hours.  Meanwhile, Central Water Commission sources said that the Ganga river was still flowing near the red mark at Fatehgarh and Ballia where it was also rising.

Sharda continued to flow above the danger mark at Palia Kalan (Kheri) while Ghaghra was flowing close to the red mark at Elgin bridge, Ayodhya and Turtipar and Rapti at Siddhartnagar and Gorakhpur.  Burhi Rapti was flowing above the red mark at Siddhartnagar though it was declining but Quano was flowing above the red mark all along in Chandradeep Ghat, Basti, Mukhlispur.

A meeting was held to review the flood scenario in the state, Vishwakarma said.  "Thirty two districts in the state are considered as flood affected. While special vigil is being kept on flash floods from Nepal, 109 flood outposts have been set up," he said.  The IG added that if required, assistance of 33 SSB outposts on Indo-Nepal border would be taken.
