CHENNAI: The Villupuram Police Superintendent was directed by the Madras High Court on Tuesday to send the four Irula women, allegedly raped by police personnel in Thirukovilur on November 22 last, for a medical examination.The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam, which gave the direction while entertaining a public interest writ petition from advocate P Pugalenthi, also directed the State government to ensure that the four police personnel, who were suspended from service in connection with the incident, stayed elsewhere and not in the area where the offence was committed.Following a plea from Advocate-General A Navaneethakrishnan in this regard, the bench granted time till December 7 to obtain instructions and file counter-affidavit.In his petition, Pugalenthi prayed for a direction to transfer the investigation in the case to the CBI.
