School hires goons to assault teachers

TIRUCHY: A gang of hired goons assaulted teachers of a government-aided higher secondary school in front of the students during class hours on Thursday.Four teachers, who were injured in the attack, had submitted a petition to the education department alleging mismanagement in the school. The management was reportedly furious with the teachers and hired goons to beat them up.On Thursday, as soon as classes commenced, a gang of men, including women, who posed themselves as parents came to the school in two vans. They reportedly abused the teachers alleging that they had misbehaved with the students and started assaulting them. While some students started crying, most of them rushed outside.Others who tried to rescue the teachers were beaten up and pushed aside.  S Lamache (54), A Panneer Selvam (51), D Prabhu (46) and Altin Prem Kumar(38), who were among those assaulted, were rescued by the police and sent to hospital for treatment.Twenty-one people, including eight women, were arrested for assaulting the teachers.  Some of the arrested were identified as M James (40), M Satheesh Kumar (23), Raja Anwardeen (23), S Amutha (43), K Kalai Vani (29) and Saroja (30).The school authorities, when contacted, did not comment on the issue.
