SALEM: A man was arrested by the Omalur police for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a hearing and speech impaired woman, on Wednesday.Balkees Banu (28), a domestic help in the house of Muthalif a.k.a Abdulah Mohamed (54) of Thekampatti, lived in Vellalapatti. After work, she used to ride her bicycle to return home. On Tuesday around 7.30 pm, she decided to walk. When she reached the outskirts of Thekampatti, Rengasamy (28) son of Dusa Gounder and Muthalif’s neighbour, offered her a lift on his motorcycle. As per a complaint filed by Muthalif, Rangasamy, who was drunk, then sped into a mango grove. Sensing trouble, Balkees jumped off the bike and ran to her Muthalif’s house. She had reportedly injured on her head, knee and shoulder.Muthalif, who took Balkees to a doctor, later narrated the incident to Rengasamy’s relative, Shanmugam. Both of them agreed to settle the matter on Wednesday. However, around 8.30 pm, Kandasamy barged into Muthalif’s house with his friends, Raja and Sakthivel and allegedly assaulted him. The trio also ransacked his house. Muthalif’s son-in-law Ninar Mohamed (32) was also allegedly assaulted.The Omalur police later arrested Rangasamy and are on the lookout for Raja and Sakthivel.
