CHENNAI: Construction of the new 24-hour hospital complex at Saidapet at a cost of Rs 4 crore, has reached its final phase and it will be inaugurated for the public in another 15 days, Mayor M Subramanian said.Briefing reporters after inspecting the ongoing works here, Subramanian said, “The new hospital, with two blocks of three floors each will have dedicated facilities like general wards, laboratory, research centre, pharmacy counter, operation theatre, and also for outpatients.”Both the blocks, located along the Corporation Maternity Hospital, have a built-up area of about 32,500 sqft.Since the upgradation of several civic body’s maternity hospitals and after announcing free gifts for babies, childbirth in Corporation hospitals recorded steep increase in the last few years, the Mayor said.Besides, construction of such 24-hour hospitals at Pulianthope, Vadapalani, Perumalpet and Meenambal Nagar at a cost of Rs 10 crore is progressing well and all the facilities will be inaugurated for public use in another two months, Subramanian added.He also appealed to the general public to utilise the Corporation health facilities, which are on par with the private hospitals in providing quality treatment.
