New Delhi: According to Al-Arabiya TV report the executed former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein might be buried on Sunday.
The body of Saddam Hussein was flown on board a US plane to his family hometown of Tikrit after it was handed over to tribal leaders for burial, said the report.
A senior Iraqi government source confirmed that Saddam's body was being given to the head of his Albu Nasir tribe and would be taken to his native Salahuddin province for burial.
The Arab broadcaster said Salahuddin provincial governor Hamad Hamoud Shagtti and Sheik Ali al-Nidawi,leader Saddam's of the Albu-Nassir clan, had negotiated wih US and Iraqi officials to be able to bury the executed leader's body near where he was born, the village of Ouja which is near Tikrit, 130 kilometers north of Baghdad.
Saddam's daughter Raghd, in exile in Jordan, was in contact with her family's tribal leaders on a safe burial location either in the family cemetery in a village near Tikrit, or in the Sunni insurgent stronghold of Ramadi.
Hussein was hanged for crimes committed during his reign. The execution took place just before dawn in Baghdad on Saturday.
