Days after the visit of the CWC team, which inspected paddy fields and took stock of water requirement for the crop, some parts of the district experienced heavy showers on Monday. This came as a relief for the local farmers in these areas as the preparations for the samba crop is going on in full swing. Monday’s showers lashed the temple town of Thanjavur and coastal town of Peravurani for more than two hours and reportedly inundated several low lying areas in the two pockets.
In Thanjavur district, rains, accompanied by thunder and lightning, started around 1.30 pm and continued till 3.30 pm.
The coastal town of Peravurani also experienced heavy downpour and gale for a couple of hours. Scattered rainfall was also experienced in many areas of Erode district over the past 24 hours. TIn a bizarre incident reported at Thattampudhur, near Arasur in Gobi, a bolt of lightning left behind a 15-ft deep pit.
