BANGALORE: With an aim to help cancer-affected children undergo Chemotherapy sessions, Medical Education Minister S A Ramadas has announced that a corpus fund of Rs. 25 crore would be set up soon.Making the announcement at Kidwai institute of Oncology in the city, he presented a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh on behalf of Aasare Foundation and said that Rs. 25 crore would be generated within three months through donations and other revenue models. “There are many families that cannot afford chemotherapy for their cancer affected children and such families would be benefited by this corpus,” he said.He also added that a separate unit would be created for children affected with Thalassemia and that such children would be identified and paid Rs. 2,000 per month as minimal medical expenditure as they require blood transfusion once in 3-4 weeks through out their life time. He shared that there were nearly 2,000 children affected by this condition in the state. The minister shared that the State Government would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an Italian organisation and the plan was to be placed before the governing council. He said that this scheme would come under the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health.Ramadas also shared that directors to the remaining eight institutes would be appointed by October 15. Speaking about the plight of many of the city hospitals, the minister said that efforts were being pursued to ensure that a food court and drug house be present in all of the hospitals under his ministry. When queried about the proposed Paramedical University, Ramadas stated that the draft of the university bill was ready and even though the Legislature was not in session, the State Government would bring it out through an ordinance.
