KOZHIKODE: In a bid to gather more evidence behind the brutal killing of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader TP Chandrasekharan, the Special Investigation Team was expanded on Sunday with five police officers being inducted into the team. Sources with police said that the SIT has received vital clues from the last phone call being received by Chandrasekharan on the fateful day.The team is also probing the role of political prisoners who were released from Kannur Central Prison recently.It has now directed its investigation on the CPM leaders who have quit Onchiyam area before and after the incident. The suspected CPM leaders of two area committees are also under scanner.Some CPM leaders left Vadakara, Onchiyam and Thalassery area after the incident, sources said.Police also got information about the meeting of CPM leaders during a marriage reception on April 22 at Valayam, where the conspiracy for the killing was reportedly hatched.Meanwhile, ADGP Crime Winson M Paul, who is leading the SIT, along with his team, visited Vallikadu, near Onchiyam, the spot were Chandrasekharan was hacked to death.He convened a meeting of the team members at Vadakara TB in the evening.Now, Police Head Quarters AIG Anoop Kuruvila John is the Investigating Officer instead of Kozhikode Rural SP T K Raj Mohan. Thalassery DySP Shoukath Ali, Crime Branch DySP K V Santhosh, Thamarassery DySP Jossy Cheriyan and Kuttiady CI Benny V V were also included in the team.Raj Mohan has been deputed to look after the law and order situation in Onchiyam area, where tension prevailed following the killing, said sources.Raj Mohan with a large police contingent is camping in the Onchiyam area.
