The High Court Circuit Bench at Dharwad in its order has suggested to the Centre to reduce the tax burden or rate of income tax on the existing tax payers .
The Division Bench in its order suggestions that, “All government servants, (who are not assesse under the income tax), shall be made liable to pay income tax of at least `1,000 per annum; (ii) That all male graduates, who are mentally and physically sound, aged between 31 and 60 (who are not assesses under the income tax), shall be made liable to pay income tax at least 1,000 per annum and protect their interest on attaining age of 61 by providing pension.
It also suggested that, “Election law may be amended prescribing a condition that every man contesting polls to the Assembly/ Parliament shall be an income tax assesse.
” The Bench directed the Registry to send a copy of the order to the Secretary, to Union Finance Department and the Secretary to Law Commission for necessary action
