Tension prevailed at several areas of the state capital with leaders and activists of various political outfits resorting to rasta rokos and hurling of stones at some places on their way to Necklace Road here to participate in the Telangana March on Sunday.

When the left activists tried to cross the barricades, they were pushed back which sparked arguments with the policemen. Miffed on being stopped, the New democracy activists hurled stones on the Secretariat, forcing the police to lob tear gas on them.

A similar situation prevailed at the Buddha Bhavan and Clock Tower where the New Democracy activists tried to break through the barricades.

TDP MLAs from Telangana region were arrested when they staged a rasta roko at the Assembly, protesting against not being allowed to enter it. They were shifted to Nampally police station.

Police had a tough time controlling the situation at the Khairatabad flyover when a TRS rally from the Telangana Bhavan wanted to go to the Sanjeevaiah Park, the venue of the Telangana March, via the flyover. The police had blockaded the entrance to the Khairatabad flyover with barbed wires and barricades, which however, some activists managed to cross.

TRS MP Vijayashanti was stopped when she tried to enter the Necklace Road through Khairatabad flyover, which led to heated arguments between the former actress and the security personnel.

A similar scene was repeated a few hours later when adamant TRS activists wanted to go to Sanjeevaiah Park via Khairatabad flyover. The police lathi-charged and tear-gassed the TRS activists to control the mob and additional forces including para-military forces were rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, BJP and CPI cadres took out separate rallies from Indira Park to the Necklace road via Lower Tank Bund, Buddha Bhavan and Sanjeevaiah Park, raising pro-Telangana slogans on the way.

CPI leader K Narayana condemned the arrest of the T leaders and activists coming to the state capital.
