New Delhi: What was supposed to spruce up Congress party’s Uttar Pradesh election campaign is now spelling trouble for them.
Party scion and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi's April 3-4 roadshow in Kanpur took an unpleasant turn with the district administration serving showcause notices for violation Section 144 (Prohibitory Orders) of the model code of conduct by him.
No permission had been sought for the roadshow on April 3, said Additional District Magistrate (city) Ayub Khan on Saturday.
In addition, Rahul’s helicopter landed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, without seeking permission from authorities concerned, he added.
The administration will issue reminders to the candidates, if they failed to reply within a stipulated timeframe but legal action would be taken against the candidates if they do not comply with the notice on time.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has been made aware of the situation.
