strong>New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused the NDA government for suppressing the voice of students over Afzal Guru row in JNU.
Rahul visited the JNU campus and slammed the NDA government for selective arrests. His visit to the university came a day after the arrest of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar in a sedition case. Kanhaiya was arrested after he was reportedly found associated with an event in JNU campus where they condemned Afzal Guru's hanging.
While scaling up attack on NDA, Rahul said, "Most anti-national are people, who are suppressing the voice of students in JNU."
Referring to Rohith Vemula suicide case in Hyderabad University, he questioned, "In Rohith's suicide case also government said that he was an anti national and in this case too students were arrested on the charges of sedition. Why students are not allowed to say what they believe in."
"They (government) will not understand that in crushing you, they are making you stronger," he said while alleging that it was a planned attack on students by the government who are against them.
Meanwhile, Rahul was shown black flags by the ABVP supporters in the campus for speaking against the government's selective arrest.
Hinting towards ABVP, he said, "Those who showed black flags on my face, I feel proud that in my country they have the right to show black flags."
He was accompanied by Delhi PCC chief and former Union minister Anand Sharma, who was 'attacked' by unknown assailants while participating at the protest meet.
