KOCHI: A day after the crucial Piravom byelection, the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church on Sunday lashed out at the state government and sought resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.“If the CM, who also holds additional charge as the Minister for Home Affairs, is not able to control the police, it is better he quits office,” Metropolitan Elias Mar Athanasios told reporters at Patriarch Centre, the headquarters of the church at Puthencruz in Ernakulam on Sunday. Mar Athanasios alleged that the police were discriminating the Jacobite faction and were framing non-bailable fake cases against its followers.“Police should justify action against the Jacobite faction. They attack our people as if they have personal grudge against us,” he said. “We are not blaming the Chief Minister and the Church does not think that he will take a stand against us. What we could understand is that the police in Ernakulam district were not following the instructions given by the Home Minister,” Mar Athanasios said.
