New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to spend Diwali on Sunday with jawans from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the Mana Post along the border near Badrinath Temple.
Preparation were in full swing for the PM’s visit with Director General of the force, Krishna Chowdhary, leaving for Dehradun. He is scheduled to reach Mana on Saturday while the Prime Minister was expected to fly to the post on Sunday afternoon.
The visit is in line with Modi’s tradition of spending Diwali with the armed forces. His first Diwali after taking over as PM in 2014 was with soldiers at Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield.
The PM had recently appealed to Indians to send in their Diwali wishes for the armed forces. “I sent my #Sandesh2Soldiers. You could also do the same. Your wishes will certainly make our forces very happy. This Diwali, let us remember our courageous armed forces who constantly protect our nation. Jai Hind. When 125 crore people stand with soldiers, their power increases by 125 crore," the PM had tweeted.
As tensions rise along the border with Pakistan with repeated ceasefire violations by the neighbour, the PM’s message from the heights of Badrinath will be closely watched on Sunday.
Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju will be celebrating the festival in Manipur with soldiers from the Assam Rifles while MoS in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh will be in Hiranagar area of Jammu and Kashmir close to the Line of Control on the eve of Diwali.
