BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday urged Commercial Tax officials to plug leakages in tax collection.Addressing members of the Commercial Tax Service Officers’ Association after inaugurating a Commercial Tax Bhavan on Wednesday, he said that the only department which was working past the target was the Commercial Tax Department. The Reserve Bank of India and the Planning Commission too appreciated the work. The traders were getting better profit because of the changes made in the taxation system, but they were not paying taxes proportionate to the profits, he said and added that the officers have to prevent such leakage of funds and taxes. He also said that for smooth and transparent functioning, one should not interfere in the working of any department. “We have not interfered yet and I will assure you there will be no interference too,” he said and added that he will give freedom to the Commissioner to handle administration of the department.
