Please, give way to ambulance

BANGALORE: Shree Indiranagar Gujarati Association organised an inter-school painting competition on December 3 at the Police Public School. More than 50 students from various school took part in the competition. The theme given was give way to ambulance. The children were familiarised with difficulties faced by the ambulance drivers due to the apathy of fellow drivers and pedestrians and based on the information given to them, they were asked to sketch a suitable drawing. In the juniors category, Muskan A,Police Public School, sixth standard bagged the first prize. The second prize  went to Nitin Deenis Stanley St. Joseph’s Boy’s High School, sixth C and third prize was taken away by Harshita K Indiranagar Cambridge, School sixth A.In the seniors category the first prize was bagged by Akbar Basha, Police Public School, ninth standard. The second prize went to Kartik Hooda Air Force School,eighth A and the third prize was bagged by Jerold Vinod S St. Patrick’s High School, tenth B.After the competition all the students participated in a mock drill of an medical emergency which was conducted by calling the ambulance from 108. The ambulance arrived with paramedic staff and took the casualty to the ambulance and gave first aid treatment. The student were shown various medical equipment  and were told by the staff of the ambulance that 108 can be called, not just for medical emergency but any kind of emergency such as theft, accident, traffic jam, fire etc, round the clock. Since last twenty five years this association is engaged in various cultural and social activities. Now it has taken up a social project on problem faced by the ambulance drivers during emergencies. More often we find ambulance stuck amid traffic and it is not just due to traffic jam but also to a large extent due to people’s apathy. The organisers said, “Our initiative is to spread awareness among people to make way for ambulance as soon as they hear faintest sound of ambulance siren.”The idea of the event was to spread awareness. It will make 2500 stickers of the selected drawing and put on vehicles.
