CHENNAI: Members of civil society and film directors, including Cheran, have requested the State government to pass a resolution in the Assembly to save the life of Perarivalan who was sentenced to death in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Mobilising people’s support for Perarivalan, Murugan and Chinna Santhan -- all sentenced to death in the case -- members of the civil society on Saturday said, “If we allow hanging of Perarivalan, then there is no point in calling ourselves Tamils”. “We will appeal to the Tamil Nadu government to pass a resolution in the Assembly,” they added.
