New Delhi: Not many know that legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar had no formal training in music. Still he has innumerous melodious songs to his credit. The man who recognised Kishore Kumar’s potential as a singer was music director SD Burman. While working on ‘Mashaal’ in 1950, SD Burman visited Ashok Kumar’s house. And he heard Kishore imitating KL Saigal. He suggested Kishore to develop his own style and encouraged him to take singing more seriously.

And then, Kishore Kumar tried to develop his own style which was a little inspired from Tex Morton and Jimmie Rodgers. Kishore Kumar sang for SD Burman for many films like ‘Munimji’, ‘Taxi Driver’, ‘Funtoosh’, ‘Paying Guest’, ‘Guide’, ‘Jewel Thief’ and others. However, it was Kishore Kumar’s association with RD Burman that made him extremely popular in the music industry.

As reported, SD Burman fell ill after recording a few songs for the film ‘Aradhana’. Then his son Rahul Dev Burman took over the recording and worked on songs like ‘Mere Sapno Ki Rani’, ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ with Kishore Kumar. RD Burman often used Kishore Kumar as his lead singer in the 1970s. Their team came up with songs like ‘O Maajhi Re’ from ‘Khushboo’, ‘Diye Jalte Hain’ from ‘Namak Haraam’, ‘Zindagi Ke Safar Mein’ from ‘Aap Ki Kasam’, ‘Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai’ from ‘Rocky’.
