BANGALORE: In a move to the horror of the Bangalore University’s Academic Council members, the administration has allowed 11 BEd colleges to conduct exams in spite of Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) reports pending for discussion. The decision was taken on May 9, after Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev in the council meet assured that the pending reports would be placed before the next meeting. H Karan Kumar, an Academic Council member, also a member of the LIC which visited these 11 colleges, said that the colleges did not deserve a go-ahead to conduct exams. He said, “These colleges did not even conduct classes and a majority of students did not attend classes. How can these colleges conduct such exams?” Kumar alleged that on May 9, the VC, Registrar (Administration) B C Mylarappa and another university official had received kickbacks. “I am confident that money has been exchanged,” he alleged, adding that Prabhu Dev and Mylarappa should resign immediately. When he approached Registrar (Evaluation) T R Subramanya on Thursday, Kumar was told that Law Minister S Suresh Kumar had written to BU authorities about the 11 B.Ed colleges. “It is highly surprising. If so, what are the contents of the letter?” he questioned. Kumar said that he is ready to move the High Court, if necessary. “I have tried to highlight the irregularities that take place in these colleges. I am ready to move the court,” he said. VC Prabhu Dev said that the decision was taken in the interest of students. He said, “We wanted the students to attempt the exam. The LIC reports will be discussed later. Besides, we could not ignore a letter from the Law minister. I am sure the court would also want the students to write the exam,’’ VC said.
