Parking space must in all new buildings in Chennai

Chennai: Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy announced in the Chennai Corporation Council meeting on Friday that parking space must be incorporated in building plans from now on.

Citing the example of the shoddily constructed pavement vendor rehabilitation building at Theagaraya Road, the mayor said that without parking facilities the building is of no use for either rehabilitated hawkers or shoppers. Looking at the inconvenience to shoppers and hawkers there, the corporation has decided that no new building will be permitted without adequate provisions for parking made in the plan itself.

The mayor added that organisations that construct marriage halls henceforth cannot expect operating permission unless parking provisions are made. All new buildings will have to construct parking spaces within the premises from now on.
