CHENNAI: The newly formed Pallavaram constituency, which has many fast growing areas, faces numerous water related problems. Sitting MLA P Dhansingh, who was previously the Municipal Chairman of Pallavaram, said that major problem faced in the area is related to either the lack or over abundance of water.Outlining the major issues, Dhansingh said, “Quality of drinking water needs to be improved. Also, the sewage system has to be improved. Directing sewage to the lake will contaminate it, and spoil the water source. A better solution would be worked out soon. All this can be done only with technical help from the PWD,” he added.Stating that he has already represented these problems to the related department, he said that the projects will take at least a year to complete after they are initiated. “I hope to have them complete by April or May of next year. I will also bring it to the attention of our Chief Minister.”Another issue is that residents face is the lack of space to dispose their garbage. “Around 50 acres of land has been purchased for waste disposal, and this should also be done by early next year,” he said. The constituency includes Tirusulam, Pammal, Polichallur, Chromepet, Hasthinapuram and Thiruneermalai.Dhansingh said that he had already organised a public meeting where he met with various resident welfare associations. “I went around the locality with them and pointed out the various problems and how I intend to tackle them. Even if it takes a while, I hope to see that a permanent solution is found for these issues,” he said.
