COIMBATORE: Continuing its crackdown on land grabbers, the police here on Friday arrested four DMK members, including two close confidantes of former minister Pongalur N Palanisamy.
According to the FIR, the accused had sold a 1.5acre land near Perur, belonging to one Gunasekaran, to a real estate firm by forging documents, three years ago.According to police sources, Gunasekaran, hailing from Perumanallur village in Tirupur district, had mortgaged his land to Venugopal, a land broker in 1994, and signed an agreement which stated that the lender would take ownership of the land in case Gunasekaran failed to repay the borrowed sum.

"However, Gunasekaran had repaid the money soon after. But nearly after a decade, Venugopal, using the mortage agreement, gave a power of attorney to another land broker Ponnusamy. Subsequently, the land was sold to a real estate firm by Ponnusamy," said a senior police official.

While land broker Venugopal has been included as the prime accused, police have named Nagaraj, the personal assistant of Pongalur N Palanisamy, and 'Meenkadai' Siva, a close confidant of Palanisamy, as coaccused.
