New York: It was a mixed day for the Indian doubles specialists. Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles, seeded 4th, lost to the unseeded duo of Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco in their 3rd round match.
Also in action on day eight were Leander Paes and Cara Black who won their match against Martin Damm and Vladimira Uhlirova 7-5, 6-2 to move into the mixed-doubles semi-finals of the tournament.
In the women's draw, Amelie Mauresmo, a semifinalist here at the Flushing Meadows, was knocked out in the 4th round by Flavia Pennetta. The French woman was never in control of the match as she lost to Pennetta in straight sets 3-6, 0-6.
Pennetta is through to the quarterfinals and will play Dinara Safina in the next round.
Safina got the better of Anna-Lena Groenfeld in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 to book her quarterfinal berth.
