New Delhi: Opera for Android is out of beta and now available in the stable version on Google Play for Android users. Based on the Webkit engine, Opera for Android was unveiled at the MWC 2013 in Fenruary. Webkit is the same software rendering engine that powers Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari browsers.
The interface of Opera has been redesigned, with a lighter colour scheme. With Discover, finding new articles is just a quick swipe to the right from your home screen. "It's like having an itsy-bitsy personal assistant in the browser, scouting out the hottest news and feeding it to people as they like," says the company in a blog post, adding, "you're going to call it the best thing to happen to a browser since the back button."
The Speed Dial has been given a refresh; the order of Speed Dials can be re-arranged and it doubles as a bookmark manager. The Off-Road feature offers data compression, which reduces the amount of data traffic while browsing on your Android phone.
You can download the free Opera for Android from the Google Play store or m.opera.com for any mobile phone running Android 2.3 or above.
With the launch of the final version, the company aims to take on Chrome in the mobile space.
