New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Karunanidhi who had welcomed the Cauvery Disputes Tribunal's verdict on Monday now says that the state government will also file a review petition.
Karunanidhi on Thursday said that the state government seeks clarifications on the distress sharing formulae and monitoring mechanisms.
Earlier in the day, state PWD Minister K Duraimurugan, in a statement, had said that legal experts and officials were going through the final award, running to over 1000 pages, and if they found any provisions affecting the interests of Tamil Nadu in the award, the state would file review petition in the Tribunal.
The state also planned to file clarification petition in the Tribunal, seeking clear guidelines for the implementation of the award by the proposed Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, he said.
Allaying the fears of some farmers' organisations over allocation of water during distress years, he said the final award had clearly stated that the proportion of water shared between the states should be the same like in a normal year.
Tamil Nadu would not be affected during distress years as the deficient water during such years would be calculated every 10 days to be shared between the states, he said.
