New Delhi: After Samsung and HTC, now Sony is reportedly working on the Nexus variant of its top-of-the-line smartphone, Xperia Z. According to a report from AndroidGeeks, the Sony Xperia Z running stock Android will also be sold in the Google Play store.
The Nexus variant of the Xperia Z will exclude Sony's software customisations, but will have identical hardware specs.
Though the exact release date of the Sony Xperia Z Nexus version is still not known, but the report claims, citing a source, who wanted to remain anonymous, that the smartphone will be announced sometime in July.
The Sony Xperia Z Google Edition is likely to come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, and will probably be priced at $599.
Earlier, Samsung announced the launch of the Nexus variant of the Galaxy S4 at Google I/O and HTC unveiled with the Nexus edition of the HTC One at the D11 conference. The Nexus variants of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One will go on sale from June 26.
Google will sell a Galaxy S4 with 16 gigabytes of internal memory for $649 in the US, while the HTC One Nexus version will be avaialble for $599.
It seems that the the top-of-the line smartphones from tech gaints running stock Android is the latest fad, and a young strategy to gain a new market share.
