KOCHI: The player in the No 10 jersey of the Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, aimed at the goal post and before anyone could stop him, striker Faizal Rahman scored his third consecutive goal.This led the Calicut University team to victory in the third match of ‘Goal 2012’, the inter-collegiate football tournament organised by The New Indian Express, at Maharaja’s College Ground on Tuesday.With the hat trick against St Xavier’s College, Thumba, Faizal is now the tournament’s top-scorer. He had also scored a goal against Sree Narayana College, Kannur, on Monday.A second year BA English Literature student, Faizal has been with the team since last year. His talent has helped his team to victory during many occasions, including the prestigious Kandamkulathy South India Football Championship in 2011. He had helped the college team earn its place in the Calicut University D-Zone Tournament, wherein he scored four goals.Faizal’s passion for professional football flared up when he was in class 11, while representing the state in the Junior National Championship held in Bangalore two years back.“My dream is to become a member of our national football team and represent India on a global platform. I am greatly indebted to our team coach Narayana Menon for helping me fine tune my skills,” said Faizal. Narayana Menon, coach of the Sree Kerala Varma College team, noted that Faizal’s unique ability to use both his legs with equal skill was the secret of his success.
