Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsThe Chief Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD), has been instructed to inspect the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare (KSCCW) building, which houses around 60 children, and prepare a report on the same,  District Collector K N Satheesh said on Monday.  The building, he said, had been constructed without permission and the Corporation had called for its demolition since it was found to be unsafe, lacking even elementary safety structures like a fire escape. Express had reported last November on the same and had mentioned how the 37-year-old building was modified, by adding an extra floor, without checking its structural and foundational stability.  “The Chief Engineer’s report, which is expected to be ready after the Onam holidays, will tell us whether the structure should indeed be demolished or not,” said the Collector.  If the structure can be maintained, the possibility of including an elevator will be looked into, he said.  “It will be necessary in a four-storey building which houses children; in case a child falls sick and has to be taken to the hospital immediately,” he added.  The suggestion came from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, after he had celebrated Onam with the children of KSCCW on Monday, in a discussion with the Collector, who is presently in charge of the Council, and the Council staff.  The CM also promised that the still vacant post of paediatrician would soon be filled.
