BANGALORE: Months after the drain work on one of the roads in Domlur was completed, access remains blocked by barricades which disrupt the flow of traffic coming from the Inner Ring Road. The road in question is used by commuters coming from Koramangala to reach Domlur and was barricaded many months ago in order to facilitate drain line work that was being carried out in the ward. The barricades remain in place to date even though the work has been completed long ago. This creates many problems for people who use this road regularly to get to their homes in Domlur Layout and adjoining areas. The only other alternative is to use a pothole ridden access road below the Domlur flyover which was damaged during the BWSSB work last year. The barricades have been placed in a way as to allow only two wheelers to get through and announce that the road is a one way to be used only by the people coming from Domlur wishing to access the Inner Ring Road.Commuters faced with no other alternatives still use this road however and this causes long lines of vehicles to queue up while maneuvering around the roadblocks. “This is just a strange solution as people still use this road, putting barricades there has just managed to make the process more tiresome and time consuming,” said Prashant, a resident. “They were placed here in order to stop the cab people from the nearby IT park from using the road,” said a shopkeeper located nearby. However there have been no intimations by the traffic police regarding any change of traffic movement on this road. Residents seem to have taken matters into their own hands and blocked vehicular movement personally. “Cab drivers and buses use this road to avoid traffic and this creates many problems for the children and senior citizens, as a result the layout welfare association has taken matters into their own hands,” said Geetha S Reddy, the local corporator of Domlur. “We have sent representations to the traffic police to take action but are yet to see any development, it is tough for pedestrians as footpaths have also been taken over by hawkers. I attempted to evict them but have been unsuccessful till now,” she added. The inspector of Ulsoor Police station however claims that this is a temporary arrangement. “The barricades will be removed as soon as work is completed on this road as well as the parallel road, this is being done in order to ease the flow of traffic,” she said. “We will consider the residents demand and do a survey to consider making the road a one-way,” she added. However besides the crude no-entry sign placed on one of the barricades, there is no other sign of traffic having been restricted on the road
