New Delhi: A day after a former CBI official probing the case made the startling claim that the then Narasimha Rao government had allegedly asked the Central Bureau of Investigation not to pursue Warren Anderson's extradition, another CBI official has refuted it.
Former CBI director Vijay Rama Rao claims all efforts were made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the CBI to pursue the former CEO of Union Carbide.
He says that it was the US government that did not cooperate with India. Rao says the US was adamant about not extraditing Warren Anderson from day one.
"The case was chargesheeted long ago and I think much before we were there. There was never any let up in this case to the extent I remember," says Rao.
On Tuesday, B R Lall, former CBI officer had told CNN-IBN that he received a letter from the MEA asking them not to push for Anderson's extradition.
