No case was registered against actors Sarathkumar and Sathyaraj in connection with complaints lodged by a depositor against Susi Emu Farm, clarified West Zone IG Sundaramurthy.
Talking to Express on Wednesday, he said though the complainant mentioned about the advertisement films featuring the actors, the case was registered against 8 persons only, including Guru, the owner of the firm. “We will take necessary action and help depositors get back their money.”
He noted, “If Perundurai inspector Vivekanandan said that a case was registered on the actors too under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), it is wrong. How could a case be registered on them for acting in the advertisement film of the firm?”
The IG maintained, “If an actor acts in a cigarette company advertisement, how can a smoker complain that his health was affected due to the actor as he started smoking after seeing the film?”
Sundaramurthy said an explanation would be sought from the inspector for stating that the actors were also included in the case.
The IG refused to say whether the case would be transferred to economic offences wing.
“We will proceed on the issue firmly and help the investors,” Sundaramurthy assured.
