Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is under fire not ordering the suspension of a police officer who allegedly killed a deer at the Bandipura National Park, three weeks ago.
The accused police officer TK Dharmesh is Deputy SP of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The state forest department has already arrested Dharmesh and his team for hunting a deer at the Bandipura national park in Mysore district.
The forest department has asked the Director General Police (CID) to suspend Dharmesh from his job. However, even three weeks after the incident, the CID chief is yet to act against him.
The arrested police officer has been admitted to a hospital. While his family claims that he is unwell, the wildlife activists and nature lovers are alleging that the government is trying to save the accused. People allege that even though a court has remanded him to judicial custody, he is avoiding jail by 'faking' illness.
The incident had led to a statewide outrage and forced the CM to promise quick action against the accused.
Since the accused police officer is also from Mysore which is Siddaramaiah's hometown, fingers are now being pointed at the chief minister. The forest officials are insisting that Dharmesh should be suspended to allow them to interrogate him without any fear or interference.
