News Digest: Rajasthan Govt Plans Research Centre to 'Protect' Cows

2. In Delhi court, a deaf-mute minor rape victim and a peculiar problem -

The POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Rohini witnessed an unprecedented scene last week when the victim of an alleged rape was made to interact with the accused — in a departure from court norms.

3. Goa's jail by the sea to turn museum

The Aguada Central Jail, Goa's erstwhile prison that stands in a scenic spot overlooking the Arabian sea, is to be transformed into a museum, reported The Hindu.

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s (GTDC) will convert the jail into a historical and heritage centre in a Rs. 25.8 crore project. Since May 30, 2015, the prison no longer houses inmates, who were shifted to the new jail at Colvale.

4. Another bout of heat wave forecast for Telangana

Contrary to what was predicted earlier by the weather experts, the temperatures are all set to soar in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a heat wave warning for Telangana for the next 72 hours. Apart from the heat wave conditions, there is also a possibility of thunderstorms at isolated places of the State, according to IMD.

According to The Hindu, the maximum temperature in Hyderabad may touch 40°C due to the heat conditions, said Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist. Skymet.

6. Rajasthan government plans research centre to 'protect' cows

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday instructed the Animal Husbandry Department to set up a cow research centre in the state to "improve their breed" and to "protect" and "promote" them. The CM also asked the department to expedite the process of setting up a cow sanctuary in Bikaner.

To be established as "Kamdhenu Research Centre", the research centre will be affiliated to Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner, reported The Inidan Express. Officials said the CM, who was chairing a meeting with top officials of Animal Husbandry and Gaupalan departments, emphasised that research be conducted especially on Rathi, Tharparkar and Sahiwal breeds.

7. Lt Gen demoted to Brig for tweaking records



The Lucknow bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal on Friday ordered the demotion of a Lt-Gen rank officer to Brigadier for manipulating his service record in connivance with defence ministry officials for a promotion, a report in the TImes of India said.

The tribunal asked the of ficer, Lt Gen N K Mehta, to pay Rs 5 lakh as cost for concealing material facts. It also imposed a Rs 50 lakh fine on the defence ministry , Army headquarters and military secretary branch for failing to maintain a benchmark for promotion in the forces.

8. Bengaluru flight recalled to let flyer deboard

A Jet Airways flight to Bengaluru was called back from the runway after the pilot acceded to a passenger's request to allow him to deboard the plane to deal with an emergency, a report in the Times of India said.

A passenger, on board flight 9W837, got a call that his wife had suffered a heart attack. "The crew members relayed the message to the pilots who took prompt action," said an airport officer.

"Because the flight had almost reached the runway , the pilots had to request the ground handlers to take necessary measures."

9. 20-yr-old woman arrested for robbery

A gang of burglars active in south Delhi was busted on Thursday after its leader, a 20-year-old woman, was arrested for robbing her friend at knifepoint in Safdarjung Enclave.

The accused, Sana got her friend drunk and then called her associates to rob her.

According to a report in the Times of India, the woman was held by the neck while other guests were held at knifepoint by the accused.

They robbed three mobile phones, two gold chains, Rs 15,000 in cash, ATM cards and other valuables from them. "The accomplices, Jyoti and Pooja, were arrested on Wednesday from southeast Delhi's Sangam Vihar," said a police officer.

10. Man poses as Sisodia's PA, calls schools for admissions

Police Friday said they are trying to ascertain the identity of a man who allegedly called up schools in the city to enquire about nursery admissions by claiming to be Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s personal assistant (PA).

Police said the man called at least three schools in Vasant Kunj and Ashok Vihar claiming to be Sisodia's PA.
