CHENNAI: An overnight daily train connecting Chennai Egmore and Mannargudi will be introduced soon, said DMK Parliamentary Party Leader T R Baalu in a statement on Saturday. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting Baalu had with Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal. The newly laid 12 km-long railway line between Needamangalam and Mannargudi would be commissioned expeditiously and the train to Chennai Egmore introduced soon. The progress of track doubling work between Chengalpattu and Dindigul had been reviewed and 20 km of the 107 km-railway track between Chengalpattu and Villupuram would be doubled by end of 2011, while the 50 km stretch on the Villupuram-Dindigul sector would be ready by December 2012. The `800 crore new railway line project between Avadi — Sriperumpudur — Guduvancherry has been sent to State government for cost sharing.
