Kathmandu: Nepal's Parliament on Monday unanimously approved the interim Constitution that allowed the Maoists to join the government and transferred the King's powers, including control of the army, to the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala tabled the motion to endorse the new Constitution and the Parliament unanimously ratified it through a voice vote.
Immediately after the passage of the temporary statute, the House of Representatives was dissolved to be replaced by an interim 330-member House, inclusive of 83 former rebels, their first step towards mainstream politics as part of the ongoing peace process.
The new interim House of Representive will function till the constituent assembly polls are conducted, possibly in June, under a landmark deal agreed by the Seven-Party alliance and the Maoists last year.
