Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar on Saturday called for a CBI probe into the pledging of forest lands and the fraudulent acts of estate owners at Nelliaympathy.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) here, Ganesh said that he has requested the Chief Minister to carry forward the idea of initiating a CBI probe into the issue wherein certain persons were availed loans to the tune of `15 crore by pledging the forest land.

“Nationalised banks, including the State Bank of India have given loans to five or six parties who pledged the forest land by submitting fake documents. I wonder why the bank managements are not coming forward to conduct an inquiry on their own. Since they fail in taking any such steps, I have requested the Chief Minister to call for a CBI probe,“ Ganesh said.

More than politicising the issue, he is looking into the legal aspects of the issue, the minister said.

“The Chief Minister has already given green signal for a Crime Branch inquiry. Hope he will take a positive stand on the demand for a CBI probe too,” Ganesh added. He also said that the government will not be ready for any kind of compromise and would go to any extent to protect the forest land.
