BANGALORE: BBMP is awaiting Railway Department and Ministry of Defence’ approval to construct 44 railway under bridges (RUB) as well as railway over bridges (ROB) to the ease traffic congestion in the city.Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy has written to Union Minister for State Railways K H Miniyappa stating BBMP and South Western Railways (SWR) have jointly taken up 44 RUBs and ROBs to eliminate all level crossings and enable smooth flow of traffic. In the letter, the Mayor has said out of 44 proposed RUB and ROBs, 23 of them were pending with senior divisional engineer co-ordinator, divisional manager works office. Tenders are floated for six RUB and ROBs, the financial bid was open, but work had not started, he added. Further, he said BBMP had proposed to construct an underpass at Okalipuram Junction for which they need 1,332 square metre of railway land. The Mayor has requested Muniyappa to allot the land and approve the construction work for all RUB and ROBs. Murthy has written to the Ministry of Defence asking them to hand over defence land for widening of roads.
