New Delhi: The Mumbai Police will include the alleged confession of terrorist, who claims to have helped organised the bomb blasts on Mumbai trains in 2006, in a charge sheet against suspects though it first had ignored his statement.
The Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of the Mumbai Police included Sadiq Sheikh’s “confession” in the charges sheet a day after CNN-IBN aired a video which showed him explaining how the blasts on 11 July 2006 were planned.
Sheikh claims to be a founder-member of Indian Mujahideen (IM), a terrorist group which has claimed responsibility for several serial blasts in the country. The ATS had Sheikh in its custody for months and claimed to have solved who organised and planned the train blast but he was not even mentioned in the charge sheet filed before a court.
The Mumbai Police now say Sheikh’s name will be included in the charge sheet. Sheikh’s confession clearly explains how the bomb attacks were carried out.
"We purchased bags and pressure cookers in Bombay (Mumbai). On the day of the blast (11-07-06), all of us assembled and we filled seven cookers with explosives...We had planned the bombs to blast at 6:30 P M Atif (another IM operative) gave me a bag which I kept in one of the local trains," says Sheikh in the videotaped confession.
"Abu Rashid and Sajid (his accomplices) then joined me in keeping their bags in the other trains. Abu Rashid (another accused) travelled till Dadar in the same train and then left for Sewree,” he says. "After a while, through the general public, we were informed of the blasts in the local train."
Sheikh’s interrogation led to the arrests of 20 more IM operatives.
