A proposal to open a forensic DNA research centre in Madhya Pradesh has been sent to the state government by the police, as it is extremely important to investigate crime scenes scientifically to collect evidence, a senior police official said in Bhopal on Tuesday.
At an event organised by the Regional Judicial Laboratory of CBI at the Police Training and Research Institution, MP Director General of Police Nandan Dubey said the proposal to open a forensic DNA research centre has been sent to the state government by the police.
Crime scenes need to be investigated scientifically to collect evidence and this was precisely the reason why 14 accused in a recent case were sentenced to death, he said. It is purely because of scientific investigation that accused get convicted even in cases where witnesses are influenced, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of the CID, Rajiv Tandon said land has been been allotted to expand the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Bhopal and an agreement signed with institutions in Sagar and Hyderabad for DNA tests.
A cyber forensic division would also be established in Madhya Pradesh shortly, he said.
