KASARGOD: There seems to be a deliberate attempt to spread the violence in Kanhangad to Kasargod also. The attack on the DYFI district office in Vidyanagar on Tuesday night is a warning that vested interests are planning to spread the violence here also.Except some incidents that occurred at Kudlu in Madhur, the communally-sensitive Kasargod region has been peaceful ever since the violence broke out in Kanhangad. This is because of the fact that the people of Kasargod, who had bitter experiences of violence in the past, want peace and communal harmony to prevail. The timely action of the police immediately after the attack on the DYFI office helped nab the four culprits. Circle Inspector Babu Peringayath and Vidyanagar Sub- Inspector Preme Sadan swung into action immediately after they were informed about the number of the miscreants’ car.According to the police, of the four culprits, Ismail aka Ikku was an NDF (now PFI) activist and all others are IUML activists.According to intelligence sources, the assailants were provided with money and the vehicle by affluent leaders of the IUML to create trouble in the area.Intelligence sources also said that the whole plan was to kick up a major communal riot. The idea is to collect money from the Gulf countries as donations for the repair of religious institutions and business establishments, which would invariably come under the attack by the rival gangs in case of a communal flare-up.Moreover, once the whole area becomes volatile and the attention of the police is concentrated on putting down the violence, it would become easy for the fake note and hawala racketeers to carry out fake note smuggling in the area. This, according to intelligence sources, is the real motive behind creating communal violence in the district.
