New Delhi: A woman and her son were stabbed to death by an unidentified youth who tried to commit suicide after the crime in Delhi's Raj Nagar area in Palam on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Anju Devi (37) and Prashant (16). Anju's husband, Raman Chaudhary was at his shop in Nehru Place when the incident took place.
It was learnt that Anju screamed for help in the afternoon and alerted the local people that somebody was attacking her son with a knife.
But when locals surrounded the house, the accused locked himself inside, police said.
"It is a suspected case of personal rivalry. The weapon used in the offence has been recovered from the spot. The accused apparently slit his own throat after locking himself inside a room," a senior official said.
While Anju was declared dead at the hospital, Prashant is believed to have died on the spot, police said.
The accused, who is as yet unidentified, is currently admitted in hospital where his condition is said to be critical, they added.
A case of murder has been registered in connection with the incident, police said.
