TIRUPATI: The government has finally increased the diet charge for the patients of government hospitals, benefiting thousands of sick people undergoing treatment as 'in patients'.
The government has issued orders increasing the diet charge from Rs 20 to Rs 40 bowing to the persistent demand for the same from hospital authorities, the Diet Contractors Association and various other organisations for the last several years in view of the steep increase in the prices of essential commodities, including rice, edible oil and vegetables. The orders came into effect from November 14. A report on the diet charge remaining unchaged for several years much to the agony of patients and discomfiture of hospital authorities and diet contractors was publihed in these columns a few weeks before the government issing the orders hiking the diet charge.
