Mom-in-law killed with grinding stone

A 22-year-old woman allegedly murdered her mother-in-law by hitting her with a grinding stone during the early hours of Thursday near Sirumugai.

Poorani alias Gayathri from Dhasakalipalayam, near Sirumugai, was married to Sundaraj (33), a farmer, three months ago.

Police said that frequent quarrels broke out between Gayathiri and Sundaraj’s mother Rajammal (55). Sensing trouble, Sundaraj decided to move out and live separately in the new house constructed in their farm. But a quarrel broke out between Gayathiri and Rajammal even at the house warming ceremony on Wednesday,” police said.

Irked by this, Gayathiri picked up a grinding stone and hit on the chest of Rajammal, when all other family members were asleep around 2 am in the house, who died on spot. The Sirumugai police rushed to the scene and held enquiries with Gayathri, who confessed to the crime. She was later arrested.
