New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his residence on Thursday to wish him on his 90th birthday. Marking his birthday as 'Good Governance Day', Modi said "There is no bigger tribute to Atal ji than celebrating his birthday as 'Good Governance Day' and pledging to devote ourselves to this cause."
"Development and good governance are the only ways ahead. Together, let us make a positive impact in people's lives and create a developed India," Modi said in another tweet.
Modi is visiting his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi where he is scheduled to attend a number of programmes on the occasion of Vajpayee's birthday. "There is no bigger tribute to Atal ji than celebrating his birthday as 'Good Governance Day' and pledging to devote ourselves to this cause," Modi tweeted.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh and senior BJP leader LK Advani will also release a book titled 'Hamare Atal ji'. The party has made elaborate arrangements across the country to celebrate Vajpayee's birthday.
Vajpayee, a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), served as prime minister first for 13 days in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004. Just a day ahead of his birthday, the government announced Bharat Ratna for the BJP patriarch for his contributions to the country.
