M'lore attack: NCW chairman rejects the findings
Chairman Girija Vyas has rejected the findings submitted by Nirmala Venkatesh.

New Delhi: The pictures of Ram sene activists beating up young girls in Mangalore became a national shame.

Now the incident has another fallout, a face off within the National Commission for Women (NCW). NCW Chairman Girija Vyas has rejected the findings of the report submitted by fact finding committee head, Nirmala Venkatesh.

“The commission cannot accept this report," says Chairman, NCW, Girija Vyas.

Its not often when any commission rejects a report of its own member. There were detailed reasons given for the rejection.

  • The committee did not contact or interview any of the victims
  • The committee required a social activist as a member, however no social activist was associated
  • The committee laid over-emphasis on the license details of the pub. This was not a part of terms of reference issued to the committee.

However Nirmala Venkatesh has refused to accept the decision and stated that she will defend the committee's findings.

The commission has also clarified that since a team under the ministry of women and child welfare has already left for Mangalore, the commission doesn’t need to send one.

Praveen Muthalik is threatening in Bangalore that he will target young couples this valentine day and even before he does that the NCW is falling apart. Clearly, many young people don’t know where to turn-up for help.

What's your reaction?
