BERHAMPUR: Even as the Sate Government announced the name of Subhashree Panda alias Mili, as one of the prominent Maoists to be released in exchange for the Italian national, a simultaneous development took place in Gunupur. Mili, Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda’s wife was produced in court on Thursday.The Additional District and Sessions Judge of Gunupur posted the verdict in the Kutinguda encounter case under Gudari police limits to April 10 after recording Mili’s statement.The counsel of Mili, Brahmananda Patnaik, argued that she should be set free without further delay as the police had failed to establish evidence in support of the case. The statements of two witnesses were recorded in the final phase of the hearings in the ADJ court on Wednesday. Earlier 11 witnesses were cross-examined by the court. Mili was shifted to Gunupur jail from Jharpada in Bhubaneswar on October 21, 2011, in connection with the encounter. The case was registered in 2003.Regarding the fresh development, Patnaik said if the decision of the Chief Minister reaches the police, they need to file a petition for withdrawal of the case and she may be released before the next hearing. Meanwhile, Arati and Nachika, members of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh, who were lodged at Circle Jail here too were mentioned in the list.
