Mercy flown to London, converted to Madonna's faith

Los Angeles: Mercy James, the three-year-old Malawian girl adopted by Madonna was flown into London while the pop star was still expected in the African country after flying from London earlier.

"A private jet flew in from South Africa and collected her at five minutes to six last evening. She connected to London from Johannesburg at 10:30 p.m," an airport source told People magazine.

The toddler was accompanied by a nanny, a child nurse and another aide and was taken to Madonna's London home, reported the magazine online.

Malawi's highest court granted the adoption on June 12, overturning an April court ruling that the pop star did not fulfill the residency criteria required for adoption.

Surprisingly Madonna, who was seen leaving London by private jet on Friday afternoon after earlier flying in from New York's JFK airport, was still expected in Malawi, but no one could confirm when she would arrive, said the report.

"There are still preparation for her coming. We still have a two-week booking at Kumbali Lodge," said a source at Raising Malawi, the charity the singer set up in the African nation.

Madonna converts Mercy to Kaballah

Mercy took the first step into her new life with Madonna, when she was converted into Kaballah, a faith followed by the singer.

Just hours after the toddler was flown into London from her birthplace in Africa, she was initiated into the cult with a session at the Kaballah centre in London, reported Sun online.

The session was also attended by Madonna's three other children, Lourdes, Rocco and David whom she had adopted from Malawi in 2006, as well as ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

The family spent an hour at the meeting in London before Mercy, wearing a pair of new shiny white sandals, returned to Madonna's 15 million pound home in Mayfair.

Guy took Rocco and David to his Wiltshire home for the weekend, allowing Madonna time to bond with her new daughter.

The 50-year-old star who won custody of the child two weeks ago after a long drawn court battle, had been expected to fly to Africa and personally collect the tot.

She won her lengthy battle to adopt Mercy two weeks ago when a Malawian court ruled "every child has a right to love".

Approval of the adoption angered many campaigners who claim Madonna was only allowed to have Mercy because of the huge sums she has pumped into the poor African state.
