Whenever someone asks about the ‘Blood Family’ of Madhya Pradesh, they will immediately point at the Narangs without any hesitation. This family has donated blood over 220 times, totaling around 110 liters.
The Narang family which stays at Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur has set a remarkable example for society, earning them the title, ‘Blood Family’.
Speaking to Local18, Jabalpur’s ‘blood man’, Sarabjit Singh Narang shared that he has donated blood 161 times till now. The 55 years old donated blood for the first time in 1989. He shared that he has two sons and a wife. His wife Renu Narang, whose blood type is B negative, has donated blood 22 times so far.
His elder son Sukhnam Singh Narang has donated 40 times and his younger son Sukhad Singh Narang, who is 19, has donated 5 times.
Speaking about what inspired him to achieve this remarkable feat, Sukhnam Singh Narang said that once he had met a child who had thalassemia. Narang, who had gone there to donate blood, had no knowledge about the disease.
“Later I came to know that thalassemia is a serious disease in which blood is needed again and again. This thought kept on going in my mind while returning home. As soon as I reached home, I shared this with my wife. Then, I along with my family took a pledge that we will keep donating blood. As a result, today we have donated blood more than 220 times together,” Narang said.
Narang said that he has been witness to several instances of people hesitating while donating blood to their own ones.
“I have experienced many things in my life. When the parents need blood, the child is not ready to donate blood to his parents. They make many excuses, from being thin to being weak, and contact others for blood,” he said.
Narang shared that a group was formed to donate blood to the needy, named Disha Welfare. Dozens of people are associated with it; he said adding that awareness campaigns and blood donation camps are organized under this group. More than 300 children are provided blood for free, he said.
When Should You Donate Blood? Why is it Important?
People within 18 to 65 years of age should donate blood. Their minimum weight should be 50 kg. The donor should be healthy and should not be suffering from any serious disease. Women should not donate blood during menstruation or during pregnancy. Those who have undergone surgery recently, have infection or have traveled should avoid donating blood.
Blood donation increases the production of new blood cells in the body, which improves health. Regular blood donation controls blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart disease. Iron levels in the body are controlled, which reduces the chances of anemia.
Blood donation not only assists those in need but also fosters a spirit of cooperation within society. Donating blood also gives mental satisfaction and happiness to the person, as they know they are contributing to saving someone’s life.
